The vendor and, at present the largest tenant, is Pfizer. The property has an occupancy ratio of approximately 50 per cent. The vacant areas are suitable for research and development as well as production in, for instance, life science or other high technology business. The Fyrislund area is characterised by companies in the pharmaceuticals industry. At present, there are five large companies there in life science, which together employ over 1,500 persons: Fresenius Kabi, Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), Biovitrum, Biacore and Phadia.

“With today’s acquisition, we are strengthening our presence in Uppsala and in the Science Park concept. Klövern’s task will be to take Fyrislund into the next development phase. Fyrislund, which is already today a centre for companies engaged in production, research and development in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, has further potential and is very important for the whole region”, says Klövern’s CEO Gustaf Hermelin.

Due to the acquisition, Klövern is holding a press conference at 1 pm today at the property Fyrislund 6:6, Rapsgatan 7 in Uppsala.

“It is extremely important for Phadia’s own development to be in a strong innovative environment, an environment where research and industry can work closely together. This is also why we have made a great commitment to ventures that strengthen and improve opportunities for successful innovations in Uppsala – Stockholm, such as Uppsala BIO and Connect Uppsala. It is extremely positive that the Fyrislund area now has a long-term owner with a vision for the area in which life science and innovations are important cornerstones”, says Magnus Lundberg, CEO Phadia.

“The Uppsala – Stockholm region already has almost 60 per cent of Sweden’s companies and employment in life science. It is very important that one of the region’s most important areas, Fyrislund, now has an owner that wants to develop an activity that is of long-term importance for Mälardalen’s ability to expand. The whole Mälar region can benefit from these new conditions for supporting the force of innovation underlying the success of a number of global companies in the life science and other innovative sectors”, says Anders Björck, County Governor.

“Uppsala is expanding rapidly now and more housing is built here than anywhere else in Sweden. The City of Uppsala welcomes Klövern as a new business partner that can also make an active contribution to the environment for the innovative companies in Life Science, among other industries. In Uppsala, every tenth job is now in the life science industry. Uppsala needs creative environments that can stimulate these companies to continue to expand”, says Lena Hartwig, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Committee.
